Cosmesis and Body Image Post Single Port Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
نویسنده
چکیده
Background: Traditionally laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed with four ports. In an attempt to improve cosmetic results and to reduce operative trauma following laparoscopic cholecystectomy, there are new operative techniques called natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) or single port laparoscopic surgery (SPLC). SPLC is regarded to provide excellent results in cosmesis. The aim of this study is to show the effectiveness of SPLC in improvement of cosmesis and body image post laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: The study was conducted in EL Fayoum University Hospital between October 2010 to October 2011 in elective surgery for symptomatic cholecyst-olithiasis with SPLC on 30 patients. Results: The study included 30 patients 23 females (76.6%) and 7 males (23.3%) with mean age 45.8 ±7 years (range 2265 years), all of them suffered from chronic calcular cholecystitis and underwent SPLC, there were no complications, no mortalities, with mean hospital stay 2 days (range 1-3 days) with better cosmetic appearance for all patients 10 weeks post operatively. Conclusion: In this study we found that single port laparoscopic cholecystectomy is safe, with short hospital stay, better cosmesis and body image.

Cosmesis and body image after single-port laparoscopic or conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a multicenter double blinded randomised controlled trial (SPOCC-trial)
BACKGROUND Emerging attempts have been made to reduce operative trauma and improve cosmetic results of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. There is a trend towards minimizing the number of incisions such as natural transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) and single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SPLC). Many retrospective case series propose excellent cosmesis and reduced pain in SPLC. As the latt...
متن کاملRandomized clinical trial of laparoendoscopic single-site versus conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
BACKGROUND Conventional laparoscopy with three or more ports remains the 'gold standard' for cholecystectomy, but a laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) approach is emerging, designed to decrease parietal trauma and improve cosmesis. This study compared conventional laparoscopic (CL) with LESS cholecystectomy, with short-term clinical results as the main outcomes. METHODS A randomized trial of...
متن کاملTwo Port Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy- A Simplified And Safe Technique
Context: Cholecystectomy is the most commonly performed operation by general surgeons worldwide and the lesser invasive technique i.e. the laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the preferred operative technique both for the patient as well as for the surgeon. Conventionally laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed by using three or four ports of various sizes. As cosmesis is an important aspect of l...
متن کاملSingle-incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. How can We Reduce the Costs? Presentation of a Technique using Straight Non-articulating Instruments and One Conventional Trocar, without Commercially Available Single Port Devices
Single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) offers an approach to cholecystectomy without visible evidence that the cholecystectomy occurred.9 Cosmesis is the only documented benefit of the single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC), while SILC remains equivalent to multi-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (MILC) in all other respects.14 We report our experience of performing SILC w...
متن کاملEarly experience in single-site laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
INTRODUCTION Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is currently the gold standard for removal of symptomatic gallbladders. The push in recent years toward reducing the number of ports required to perform this surgery has led to the development of single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC). We report our early experience with SILC and assess its feasibility and safety. METHODS A prospective st...
